Football
Ray Tate played multiple years on the Patrick Henry Football Team and was a stalwart on both sides of the line. He was Co-Captain in his junior and senior years and was a second-team All-State selection his senior year. Tate played collegiately at the University of Richmond. He was a team captain and selected as an All-Conference and All-State performer his senior year.
Tate spent twenty seasons (1985-2004) as a football analyst for the Richmond Spiders. He also has an award named after him that the Richmond Touchdown Club has given annually since 2013.
Ray passed away on October 19, 2011, at the age of 68, after a long illness. His booming presence and unwavering commitment to mentoring young athletes left an indelible mark on Hanover County and the Richmond area.

Edward “Eddie” Webb

Basketball
Eddie Webb was a two-time All-District and a two-time 2nd Team All-Metro selection in basketball. He was the team MVP twice and held the record for most points in a single game (38).
Webb went on to play four years at Randolph-Macon College and is a member of the R-MC Athletics Hall of Fame. He was an assistant coach collegiately for twenty years. Webb was also the President of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame for twenty-four years, and under his direction, the VSHF was ranked as one of the top state halls of fame in the country.

Ray Long, Jr

Coach Ray Long, Jr was the Head Football Coach at Patrick Henry from 1982 to 2009. He amassed a 228-85-1 record (.726) and received the Central Region All-Time Winningest Coach award in 2005.
Long led the Patriots to seven regional titles, thirteen district championships, two state runner-up finishes, and a Virginia State Championship in 1994. He was the Colonial District Coach of the Year thirteen times and the All-Metro Coach of the Year seven times.
In 2007, he was recognized by the National Football League for his work with youth programs.

Sonja Fridy Kinney was a four-year letter winner in both Track & Field and Gymnastics. In Gymnastics, she was a multi-event state qualifier in both her junior and senior years and was state runner-up her senior year on the vault. In Track & Field, Kinney set multiple school and Colonial District records.
She still holds the school and regional record in the long jump. Kinney won multiple Colonial District and Central Region titles and was the state champion in the 100 & 200 meters her senior year. She was an All-American in the 200m.
She received a full scholarship for Track & Field at the University of Virginia, where she still holds three school records.
Donnie Morris

Donnie Morris was a multi-sport letter winner at Patrick Henry. In Track and Field, he still holds the school record for the triple jump, and he was a three-year letter winner in Basketball.
Morris grabbed multiple All-Metro and All-State honors in both his junior and senior years. In his senior year of 1985, he was the All-Metro player of the year as well as the AP Group AAA Offensive State Player of the Year.
He played collegiately at Norfolk State and still holds the record for the longest punt return in the school’s history. Morris was also on NFL practice squads for the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.

Damien Woody

Football
Damien Woody was a four-year letter winner in Football at Patrick Henry. He was an All-Metro and All-State player and a member and leader of the 1994 State Championship team.
Woody went on to play collegiately at Boston College, where he was a four-year starter on the offensive line.
In 1999, he was selected 17th overall by the New England Patriots in the NFL Draft. He played for three teams in the NFL from 1999 to 2010, was a Pro Bowl selection in 2002, and is a two-time Super Bowl Champion. Woody has worked for ESPN as an analyst since 2011.

Dominic Smith

Basketball, Football
Dominic Smith was a four-year letter winner in Basketball and was selected for the All-State team in his senior year.
He was also a two-time All-Metro and All-State Football player at the cornerback position. He is still the all-time leader in the state of Virginia for interceptions. Smith went on to play basketball at the University of Houston, where he remains the all-time leader in steals and free throw percentage.
He played professional basketball in Greece.

Lizzie Powell Hissey

Track & Field
Lizzie Powell Hissey was a four-year letter winner in Track and Field. She was All-District and All-Region every year of high school.
Hissey won both the outdoor and indoor pole vault state titles during her career and garnered All-American Indoor honors in her junior and senior years.
She was the Richmond Times-Dispatch Female Athlete of the Year in 2010 and at one time held the state outdoor pole vault record.
Hissey went on to run collegiately at both Virginia Tech and William & Mary.

Held the all-time Virginia state record in the pole vault outdoors (13-3)
Won the 2009 outdoor state title in the pole vault
